Jay-Z, rapper Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore and Lewis got a lot of love Friday night when this year's Grammy nominations were announced, but Justin Timberlake turned out to be the biggest loser -- by getting shut out of all the major categories.
Jay snagged nine nods, some in minor categories, while Macklemore and Justin each earned seven -- although odds-makers were shocked that J.T. didn't get any traction for Song of the Year, Record of the Year or Album of the Year. Drake, who called in sick for his performance on the nominations concert on Friday night, managed five.
Lorde, widely considered 2013's biggest new artist, managed both Song of the Year and Record of the Year nods among her four nominations, but, bafflingly, got shut out for Best New Artist. Other notable nominees include Daft Punk, who had their breakthrough this year thanks to the hit "Get Lucky," and Sara Bareilles, who got an out-of-left field nod for The Blessed Unrest.
Nominees in the top categories are:
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Sara Bareilles – The Blessed Unrest
Daft Punk – Random Access Memories
Kendrick Lamar – Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – The Heist
Taylor Swift – Red
RECORD OF THE YEAR

CELEBRITIES REACT TO THE DEATH OF NELSON MANDELA
Celebrities have reacted to the death of former South African President and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela, who died yesterday (December 5th) at the age of 95. Mandela had ongoing health issues -- and spent three months in the hospital due to a recurring lung infection earlier this year. Jacob Zuma, the President of South Africa said in a statement that Mandela was "well looked after" and "comfortable" in his final days.
Mandela is known for leading South Africa out of apartheid. He served 27 years in prison for conspiring to overthrow South Africa's government. He was released in 1990 and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
Celebrities have released statements and took to social media to react to the death of Nelson Mandela. President Obama said in a statement, “I cannot imagine my own life without Mandela’s example. May Nelson Mandela’s life of service to others and his unwavering commitment to equality, reconciliation, and human dignity continue to be a beacon for each future generation seeking a more just and prosperous world.”
Oprah released a statement, saying, "One of the great honors of my life was to be invited to Nelson Mandela's home, spend private time and get to know him. He was everything you've ever heard and more – humble and unscathed by bitterness. And he always loved to tell a good joke. Being in his presence was like sitting with grace and majesty at the same time. He will always be my hero. His life was a gift to us all."
Morgan Freeman: “Today the world lost one of the true giants of the past century. Nelson Mandela was a man of incomparable honor, unconquerable strength, and unyielding resolve—a saint to many, a hero to all who treasure liberty, freedom and the dignity of humankind. As we remember his triumphs, let us, in his memory, not just reflect on how far we’ve come, but on how far we have to go. Madiba may no longer be with us, but his journey continues on with me and with all of us.”
Idris Elba: "What an honor it was to step into the shoes of Nelson Mandela and portray a man who defied odds, broke down barriers, and championed human rights before the eyes of the world. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Simon Cowell's baby mama can now legally become his wife.
The X Factor judge's girlfriend, the very pregnant Lauren Silverman, finalized her divorce from Andrew Silverman on Wednesday.

Now that Andrew is out of the way, word has it Simon plans to pop the question over the holidays. The baby is due early next year.
Production on Fast and Furious 7 has shut down indefinitely in the wake of Paul Walker's death.
Walker and the rest of the cast had already started shooting the movie in Atlanta this fall. Now the status of the project is in doubt. In a statement released today (Wednesday), Universal says it will "assess all options available to move forward with the franchise."
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles County Coroner has announced that Walker died from “traumatic and thermal injuries.” His friend Roger Rodas, who crashed the Porsche into a light pole on Saturday, died on impact, and the fire did not contribute to his death, according to the report. Their deaths have been ruled an accident, though investigators are looking into what caused it.
