I think the exact words were something to the effect of This year, you can burn your own darn turkey!
Now in all honesty, I don't recall a year where my MOm burned the Turkey. Dry years....oh more then likely....but of course Turkey is a dry meat. Its hard to get it done right and well. Really. I know you can soak it, brine it, inject it....but really, its all kinda dry. Nature of the beast.
But this year instead of having Thanksgiving with my parents, like we always do, we are having it on our own. My parents are going to be in California with my grandmother visiting family down there. In fact, I believe that they are all flying down today. THey should have some fun...my cuz Jolie is a blast and will give them lots of good giggles I know! Plus, the family that is hosting the Thanksgiving down there....has a tradition / Rule...where everyone...and I mean EVERYONE has to where Pilgrim hats!! Boys and Girls. And thats why I am totally OK with us not going!!! :)
But it will be good for them....and for me.
My first Thanksgiving on my own. THe Turkey? Nope. Not gonna be one of those Funniest video moments where I burn it, or forget to take out the guts....its going to be a good Turkey. Cuz I am not cooking it! :)
I actually just bought a Turkey breast ( its big!) and then dropped it off at the Longhorn BBQ...where for a very small amount of money they will smoke and cook that sucker for me! :) I just have to pick it up and cook the sides!
And I am good with cooking sides!! I have it all planned out...and I am just hoping that it all really comes together well. ANd really, I am hoping / thinking that I might have enough left over to leave out my parents house for them to have some left overs too. :)
And to show them that I am perfectly able to burn my own darn turkey too! :)
Altho....as I type this I realize it could backfire. If I do well on Thanksgiving this year....they might expect me to do MORE next year....hmmm...wait a minute....
