I don't really give to much attention to gender specific toys....Rissa is a tom-boy girl...so their barbies have long been plagued by dinosaurs and such.  We have legos in the livingroom.  its all the same...they are just toys.

But there is a 4 year old boy who is asking Hasbro to change or open up its color options on the easy bake oven, because he wants one, and right now its geared towards girls.  The new Easy bake ovens are either pink or purple and so he feels weird wanting one of those, altho this 4 year old boy loves to cook and bake.

At first I was like, ok...makes sense....move on.  Then I stopped.

There are not one, but TWO cooking CHANNELS on tv right now and I would say that its about 50/50 when it comes to men and women hosting the shows.  Cooking and baking are HUGE right now...the chefs are basically celebrities anymore...this town was super excited when Guy F and triple D came to town to highlight some of diners here.  At SCC, the cooking program there has a waiting list to get into the program....same for the baking.  And its not just ladies....guys are in there too...in big numbers.

So....why is Hasbro NOT jumping on this trend??  Why aren't many of the toy companies?  Seems like a no-brainer when you stop and think about it.  This boys petition to the company could be the start of something big...really big.  And Good!

So I hope that more people become aware of it and that the company does too, and makes a subtle change.

I vaguely recall that I had an easy bake oven way back when....and I could have sworn that mine was green.  Or maybe that was just the after affect of eating cakes and cookies baked on a light bulb!! Tongue out
