I have jokingly said it for years....that here in SPokane, we are usually so sunshine-playtime focused that you could give away $100 bills on a street corner on a gorgeous Saturday and no one would come by. They would tell you they heard about it, on their way to the lake!
I bring this up because I just read a story about how some guys in Boston were playing around and decided to give out Free $1 bills to people on the street. A kind of reverse-panhandling they called it. Offering up free dollars to people walking by....and they figured they money would go fast.
People ignored them, walked around them, avoided them. And I get it.
I worked at a radio station once and we had a booth set up in CDA for one of the street fairs going on. It was hot that day. H O T. We were handing out water bottles. For free. And it was sooooo weird because people were leary of it. Would double check...ask again...then still look at us sideways as they walked away with the free water...people are wary of free.
Usually because nothing is truly free. We all know that! So when you do find something is free....you're waiting for that other shoe to drop...the price for the free item.
But the story made me smile too when I read it, because it just proved me right. Well....kinda of. I bet if they were giving away $100 they would have had far more takers.
