Its really one of the very few parenting advice things I say, and that I truly mean!
Sing you baby a lullaby!
I did with Ella and pretty much proved this study, before they even did it!
A study just came out saying that lullabys can ease babies pain, as well as give them comfort and security.
I already knew that!
I used to sing You are my Sunshine to Ella as she would be getting rocked to sleep. ( and babies aren't like judges on the voice...they don't care how you sound!)
When Ella had fallen down the stairs at a friends house and had a small gash in her forehead, she had to get stitches on her head.
NO baby likes to have needles in their heads ( nor do their moms!) or have a sheet placed over their heads so the docs can stitch her up. So to settle her down, at the docs request, I tried singing her the lullaby. And it WORKED.
The docs were very happy, as she settled down and they could do their jobs and get her back to my arms instead.
It was awesome!
The downside however, a few months later we were on vacation in oregon at a restaurant that had live music and the guy decided to sing You are my sunshine....as we all watched Ella start to nod off in her high chair.
Still tho.....a good thing to do!
Were you ever in band?? I did some time in the color guard...and we marched on the field with the band. Its not as easy as it looks. Seriously. Having to march, watch your step, keep step, keep your line.
I am impressed by those who do it well. And These guys do it very very very well!
Check it out!
THe girls had a busy and fun weekend attending two Halloween parties of their friends! Funny tho, at both parties, they had to eat something off a string ( hanging one) as a game.
Donuts? Easy...and yummy.
Apples? A lot harder.
ANd then....you just give up and grab the darn thing!! :)I would have just gone for the donuts!
Ahhh, the annual carving of the pumpkins! I don't do it. Nope. I buy them, the hubby gets to carve them.
This year I believe his instructions to the kids were....keep it simple. Basic shapes, not anything they have seen in commercials or online. :)
They were fine with that and so was he! Here are the results!
Not bad huh! This one is more my fave. I like the look...much Like I have on my face from my kids.
First off, to be totally clear, I am not being paid, or asked, or anything to mention this, its simply something I found out and was rather impressed by!
The Albertsons store next to me has been going thru a remodel and rennovation ( which it really, really needs!!) and as I was grabbing a few things the other day and mentioned to the checker that the self-check lanes were gone.
She said YEP! I guess they were "albertsons" before, but now they are truly owned by Albertsons and that company is all about customer service! SO the self check lanes are gone!! There are more express lanes, more full lanes being staffed too! I mentioned that I liked that, even tho I did occaisonally use the self check lanes, I felt a bit bad about basically taking away jobs by using them and also depending on what you were buying, it was kind of a hassle.
She then told me that those are gone and...the best part...their hours to work have doubled!!! Yay!!! More people with jobs that can help them pay the bills...give them spending money. More Happyness!
Plus the updates on the store will be really nice too...and so needed!
Guess I will be doing more shopping there...helping keep a company trying to do the right thing, to keep going!!
YEs, I am a Scorpio. Thats my sign. And yes, some of the traits of the sign really do apply to me.
I am very loyal to my friends and loved ones, I do like things to be very neat and tidy, I do prefer things done my way, I do like my independence and sooooo looked forward to living on my own.
Stubborn? Yeah....I have said things that have made people look at me like I was the weird one ( whatever!), and I have been known to feel my emotions...very well!!
I don't mind speaking to crowds, things that I can't fix drive me nuts....I am nosey in that I do like to know things and whats going on....And I do just HATE having to do something that I really really really do NOT want to do. ( I have gotten several headaches and super bad moods brought on by having to do things I didn't want too!)
I have even had a guy tell me that we couldn't date anymore because his mom said that my sign and his didn't get a long well together! ( I beg to differ, we got a long just great....mom was nuts!)
But do I really need some Sign from the charts of the stars to tell me these things about me?
I think I do see and recognize these traits in myself, but its fun to have them pointed out to me....and those around me too.
Do I pay much attention to other peoples signs and traits? No.
But that falls under things I don't want to do, so...that explains that! :) ACtually it is fun to look at the signs traits and see if they do or do not really fit into the people you know.
Plus, it gives me an excellent reason to be even more stubborn and do things my way all the time.
Hey, you can't change your sign!! :) hahahahahaha
Most of us watch the Superbowl for the commercials....ok, the game too usually. And we will stick around for the half time show too, as its usually a big name star.
By the way, its Bruno Mars this year!
But if thats just too much for you, there is a new alternative this year.
The Kitty Bowl.
Yep. What has been for many years past, The Puppy Bowl, this year will instead be the Kitty Bowl with about 70 kitties playing around various toys and obstacles with not one commentator, but two!
Howard Sterns Wife will be hosting the event this year and will be joined by John Sterling, the voice of the Yankees.
In years past during the Puppy Bowl, there was a kitty half time show. No word yet on if the puppys will be putting on the show instead this year!
Why the change? Not sure. My guess is tho....all the popular videos of cats on Youtube and of course....Grumpy CAt.
I know that I have many many people on my FB page that are all about the selfies!! I do like getting to see people who I don't otherwise see much, but some people are super selfie.
So a company in Japan is using 3-D printer technology to create little mini action figures of people. ( more like a statue tho as it your parts don't move!) But then instead of taking Selfies, you take picts of your mini me in various places instead.
I kinda like it.
I have a friend who does that already , but uses Storm Troopers from Star Wars instead. Some pretty funny stuff that he comes up with.
But the company notes that its not all just for FB fun, they had an elderly man make a mini me of himself to give to his wife who was in a care facility. That way he would always be with her.
I think if I had one tho...I would likely just be taking picts of me, my mini me and wine.
Those would be good picts too!
As parents, we hope that by the time our kids reach 18, they are responsible, well mannered young adults who are ready to find their way in the world.
At least thats what I am hoping for!
So this story of an 18 girl in England made me smile. She worked weekends at a jewelery store and when she turned 18, it was time to start thinking about college or what her next step would be.
Thats when the store she worked in came up for sale! So she bought it.
Yep, 18 years old. Got the money together from family and now the store she worked in on the weekends is all hers. She even sells the jewelery that she makes in her store.
Pretty cool to know that some kids are in fact amazing and doing good things. And probably have some pretty happy parents behind her too!
