Did you catch the story over the weekend. The one of the elderly couple who passed away in a car accident. That part is tragic, however the twist on the story was that when the officiers arrived on the scene of the wreck, the 92 year old husband was holding the hand of his 88 year old wife.
Gives me shivers.
Officers said that they didn't know if they were holding hands or did so after the crash, but that it was certainly something that they do not see too often.
They had to ask him to please let her hand go so they could remove him from the car.
But wow....they had been married for 68 years and according to friends of the couple, would be holding hands whenever they could.
The story on Krem 2s site is pretty great too about them. Talking about how when the lawnmower got to be too much for him to push....she came out and they would push it together.
Thats the kind of love story we all hope for when we are little, the kind of love we all hope to have in our lives too.
Thats the kind of love that fairy tales are made of.
I took the girls out to get their Halloween costumes this weekend and was suprised at what the options were.
Ella likes to be pretty. All the time. Even Halloween. So she picked out some fairy dress thing, but the skirt will light up and twinkle.
Rissa likes to get a bit scarier for Halloween tho. A few months back, she had thought she might be a mummy. AFter looking at a few costumes tho, we decided ( ok, she decided and we had to go to 2 different stores to find) a vampire outfit. A girl one. COol dress.
We ended up at one of those Halloween only stores. They had a large selection of costumes for hte kids, but I found it interesting that most of them weren't scarey. most were disney, or monster high or generic stuff...like candy corn or dorthy from oz.
Grown up stuff was a bit more scarey, but not the kids stuff.
However, according to online research....expect to see a lot of Minnons at your door! I admitt, that I will give an extra piece of candy to any minnons at my door!!
Remember back in the younger days...your ability to party and play with little hang time? Gone by now huh!! It is harder to bounce back when you get older, so many of us try to keep any party/playtime in check.
But if you should over indulge ( holidays are coming!) your cure could already be in the fridge!
According to a study in China, they determined that Sprite worked at reducing the amount of whatever it is that is the leftover metabolized alcohol and got people feeling better, faster.
Used to be a good greasy hamburger would do it! Now skip that part, and just have the pop that went with it!
its Fall so its basically a Pumpkin Free for all season! Pumpkin spiced everything is just about everywhere!
But a new source says that the Pumpkin Spiced latte everyone loves...contains no pumpkin. Pumpkin associated spices, like cinnamon and such...but then just contains a pumpkin flavored syrup. ( disappointing perhaps..but really...real pumpkin would just be too...thick! euw)
The story went on to reveal that Hersheys Pumpkin Kisses ( side note...eeuuwww) contain no pumpkin either.
Duncan Donuts ( which we still don't have yet!) has pumpkin donuts that do contain real pumpkin. A big old 2%. But hey....at least its there!!
This story actually caught my eye because its not anything I really though about until they pointed it out to me. Which is good. I believe that my life can go on living fine....and if I truly wish to have real pumpkin in my...whatever....oh there are about a million recipes for it online!
Now before you shrug off the whole idea, knowing that you do it all the time...for all holidays...please note, that I don't.
I don't know why...or why not...but pretty much Christmas is the only time we decorate the house and really thats done by the hubby.
Its just not something I have done in the past. But now the girls are bigger and more into it and so we started to decorate for Halloween this year. I put a big ghost on the door ( cute, not scarey!) and then Rissa and I made these little ghosts and hung them in the tree in front of the house.
I think they look pretty cute!! From close up. From far away, it looks more like our tree was TP'd.
On a daily basis, I cruise thru several whole foods type of recipe sites. I am really trying hard to eat whole, healthy foods and get them for my family too.
However, even I have my weaknesses. So Thank goodness I don't live in Chicago where the Rockit Bar would be tempting me with a new spin on a Hamburger....The Mac N Cheese Burger.
This baby skips the regular Bun and instead uses 1 patties of fried mac n Cheese. Now, I have indeed tried the Fried mac n cheese bites that are frozen and I do have the recipe to make them too, courtesy of Paula Deen, but haven't done it yet. And I have liked what I have tried....so I can pretty much say that Yeah! I would be in on this too!!
In between the two mac n cheese patties, you will find the normal burger yumminess.
Now before you scoff and call the nutrition police...think for a moment...a deep secret moment...where you admit its like your 2 favorite foods as a kid coming together as one!!!
Then be like me and be Thankful that the restaurants here haven't caught on yet!!
Now I do have a goal of running a half marathon at some point in time, I really do. But I am fairly sure that when I do it....I will KNOW that I am doing it.
But I just read a story online about a girl who ran one...on accident.
She had trained to run the 1.5 mile run that went with the half. But somehow the pace car for the shorter run broke down and the group was directed on to the longer course!
Most of the people eventually realized that they were running longer then they had trained for and stopped. But this one girl figured out what was going on....and decided to keep going on. She said that it made her want to finish the half instead.
She also said that she did have plans to run the half in the future...and will still train for one...but is enjoying the half that she ran...on accident!
I recently had the chance to talk to the communications director of Silverwood to give me the scoop on this years Scareywood attractions!
Now I am not about to go all political here...not a chance. But I will share that I find it beyond crazy that the Govt has shut down.
They can't agree and compromise on stuff to keep the Govt going? To keep people working and employed? Thats nuts.
I used to have fairly good feelings about the Govt before, but boy do I have a different feeling today.
And I am not even directly affected by it. I have friends on FB who are sitting at home today on unpaid time off because of the shut down. Losing money that frankly they need.
And with no end in sight? Bad choices people.
I usually don't get caught up in the shouts and finger pointing and such of politics, but right now I am not too impressed.
Not for a moment would us regular people get to keep our jobs if we refused to compromise and find ways to make things work. To keep the business functioning and moving forward.
Crazy to know that the Govt thinks it can do this and still keep their jobs.
Or will they?
Election time is a ways off, but I am curious now to see what comes about when its time.
Perhaps then is when we will see a change??
I just hope that everyone can come back together to agree on something soon....too many good people are feeling the direct affects of it on them. And they didn't get a vote on it.
